A new Radio for our Peugeot Boxer Camper Van
Our car was delivered with a Daiichi D716AF radio. Since we wanted an Android Radio* so that we could also install our own apps, we replaced it with a device from Xtrons* with a DAB+ Decoder*.
The radio conversion turned out to be more complicated than we had expected, so here are a few tips on what we needed. In addition to the Radio* itself and an installation frame*, you need a CAN Bus Adapter* (depending on the plug, a different model may be required) which makes the vehicle think that a factory radio is installed. If you don't have this, errors may be displayed in the on-board computer. Our original radio was connected to a 52-pin plug, and the CAN bus adapter also offers an adaptation to the common ISO format.
Unfortunately, that's not all, because the CAN bus adapter has its weaknesses if the steering wheel buttons are to be used or a rear view camera is installed. The adapter plug does not have the necessary wiring for these parts. But here too, there are adapters for the rear view camera and the steering wheel buttons.
The pins can simply be inserted into the empty spaces on the connector from the back and adapted to the new radio. This makes adaptation much easier, as most Android radios have a Key1 and Key2, as well as a video connection where the adapter cable fits.
